PE and Sport

PE and sport is a vital aspect to our ethos of developing the whole child. At Hambleton School our children have many and varied opportunities to exercise regularly through our PE curriculum as well as participating in many sporting competitions.

PE and Sport Funding

Hambleton CE Primary School Sports Premium Report

Primary schools in England are currently receiving £8000 plus £5 per pupil to spend on developing PE and school sport. This academic year Hambleton CE Primary School has prioritised 5 key areas for funding as follows:

  • Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (37%)
  • Before and after school clubs (15%)
  • Competition (27%)
  • Equipment (2%)
  • Curriculum (Delivery and Staff Training) (19%)

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles

Our close partnership with Selby Leisure Centre has enabled us to deliver both curricular and extra-curricular activities focused on Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles - engaging pupils in healthy eating, exercise and understanding the importance of these as part of life.

Before and after school clubs

We invested significantly to provide free places for before and after school sports clubs using qualified coaches. Pupils from key stages 1 and 2 have all benefitted with 84% of pupils attending at least one club. New clubs on offer this year included skipping and ballet.

This year was another highly successful year for competitive sport at Hambleton School. We competed against other schools in a wide variety of sports including: hockey, netball, swimming, cross-country, indoor and outdoor athletics, handball, cricket, boys' and girls' football, tennis, tag rugby and golf.

Oursquads for Sportshall athletics, Quad kids and Golf all reached the North Yorkshire Finals!

We are very well equipped for PE equipment - this year we invested in a springboard to enhance gymnastics provision.

Curriculum (Delivery and Staff Training)

We have employed specialist coaches to work alongside teachers in lessons to increase their subject knowledge and confidence in aspects of PE - the focus has been on Gymnastics and Outdoor & Adventurous Activities.
