PE and Sport

PE and sport is a vital aspect to our ethos of developing the whole child. At Hambleton School our children have many and varied opportunities to exercise regularly through our PE curriculum as well as participating in many sporting competitions.

PE and Sport Funding

Meeting national curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety

What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort swim competently, confidently   and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres?

What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort use a range of strokes effectively   [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]?

What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort perform safe self-rescue in   different water-based situations?

Schools can choose to use the Primary PE and Sport Premium to provide   additional provision for swimming but this must be for activity over and   above the national curriculum requirements. Have you used it in this way?

Hambleton CE Primary School Sports Premium Report 2015-2016

Primary schools in England are currently receiving £16000 plus £10 per pupil to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport. This academic year (2017-18) Hambleton CE Primary School has prioritised 6 key areas for funding as follows:

  • Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles
  • Broadening the pupils’ experiences across a range of sports and activities
  • Competition
  • Equipment
  • Curriculum (Delivery and Staff Training)
  • Increasing activity at playtimes

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles

Our close partnership with Selby Leisure Centre will enable us to deliver both curricular and extra-curricular activities focused on Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles - engaging pupils in healthy eating, exercise and understanding the importance of these as part of life.

Broadening the pupils’ experiences across a range of sports and activities

We will introduce new sports and activities such as fencing, archery, lacrosse, gaelic football, goalball, boccia.

We will be entering cluster competitions for tag rugby, handball, hockey, football, cross-country, sportshall athletics, swimming, ten pin bowling, tennis, netball, cricket, tri-golf and Quadkids.

We will review our PE equipment and make necessary purchases to replace stock and to add additional equipment to deliver new sports. We will improve the way our equipment is stored for easier access.

Curriculum (Delivery and Staff Training)

We will employ specialist coaches to work alongside teachers in lessons to increase their subject knowledge and confidence in aspects of PE - the focus will be on Gymnastics and Games.

Increasing activity at playtimes

We will employ a sports coach during lunchtimes to promote pupils becoming more active and able to engage in a wider variety of activities.
